After the school holidays everything calms down again, the sea is amazingly warm after months of sunshine, and the air temperature is a little cooler, around the mid to high 20s.  There are wild mushrooms, chestnuts, squash, wild blackberries.  The festa of our own village is on the 1st October.  They close the main road and have a party in the village square.  Towards the end of October it might even be cool enough at night to have a log fire in the big, open fireplace but it's definitely hot enough for outside lunches, swimming and sun bathing.  An ideal location for a half-term break.
